Task Manager - CPU usage at 22% is killing the PC

Unfortunately I had to restore the hibernation: putting the notebook to sleep for 12hrs without powering it with main power supply is not practicable. Its power battery is not enough for such a sustained sleeping period. So the net-net result would be a shut down after a few hours, anyway. If...

Hi billmcct! Thanks for your help. The idea is acceptable: I will try to disable the hibernation and will report back in this thread whether the issue is gone.

Hi Jody! I installed the ESU for Windows 8.1 and then recently tried to install the latest 2023-02 Security Update Only for Server 2012 R2 x64 but I got the message it's impossible to apply the update message. Which ESU? The one for Windows 8.1 or... server 2012 R2? The above procedure in...

What is the difference between window 8.1 and windows 10?

Exactly: there are still Security Updates and Windows Defender signatures updates. However it is not the same Windows Defender running Windows 10. on WIndows 10 there are several services and processes that could drain your hardware. Anyway my suggestion would be to update your HHD to a SSD...

Create Bootable USB or DVD with Windows 8 ISO

Creating a Windows bootable disk with DVD is simply burning the ISO into a DVD; many utilities do that process or Windows own burner. Anyway it's illustrated in Option Two, step #7 'To Create Bootable Windows 8 or 8.1 Installation DVD'.

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ISO - Download or Create

Brink wrote: What VM program are you using? Could you back up the fully updated VM to be able to restore as needed to deploy? It's VMware Workstation 12.x Pro. No I can't do that because each VM must be 100% different and I would not get it restoring fully update VM backups. That's why I need...

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ISO - Download or Create

Hello Brink :D, Maybe I don't express myself clearly: I don't want to check for upgrades after an installation. I need to create an ISO with the Windows 8.1 updates embedded into it (so it will not need to download the latest cumulative updates via internet). Don't know the correct word for...

Win8.1 waking up from hibernation .... waiting forever

Unfortunately the manufacturer did not even provide the BIOS/fw upgrades for Spectre or Meltdown; it is several years there are no updates at all. However hopefully (and touching wood) hybernation is working these days. Ditto, the Sleep mode suggested by MGhee.

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ISO - Download or Create

HI all, I already own an original Win8.1_Pro_ENG-GB_X64.ISO untouched. But it is the original MSDN release. Therefore should I need to integrate all of the dozen Windows Updates released since the 2014, which is the procedure or the appropriate thread, please? Thank you.

Win8.1 waking up from hibernation .... waiting forever

Hi MGhee, Thanks for your help. I actually never evaluated to use Sleep mode! Effectively it is a nice solution. It is working flawlessly for my needs and obviously faster than Hibernation.

PC slowed down considerably esp. in regular boot mode; safe mode is much better but still slowed a bit

@nrabus: First of all run CMD with Admin rights and check your system integrity with a sfc/ scannow . Then running a non-reliable software to check drivers could not be a great idea. You may not know which garbage could be installed together with the supposedly up-to-date drivers. So I...
