Win 8.1 and Google Chrome

I am using a Win 8.1 PC and my go to browser has been Google Chrome, mainly because I have it on my phone and tablet too. Have noticed within the past week or so, it has become very painfully slow, after start-up for certain pages and Outlook, for example loading e-mails and to compose them. I can understand Outlook as I have got probably too many e-mails. But, loads fine on other devices and also one of the web pages as I use quite a lot and would probably said is content heavy otherwise as it's a test bank for A+ (the irony) . Took about nearly 10 minutes too load.

I do notice the compatibility / banner that shows up on Chrome about supporting Windows 8. Is there anyway, I can still make this a useable browser and is there a fix or workaround to make this happen. I do realize I will have to retire this desktop at some point - it has served me well, just now I need something to work around. Also, from searches, I'm reading that support for Win 8 / 8.1 is ending or ended for Google Chrome.

So, far;

I have I have selected in Compatibility from Properties, 'Run as this program for Windows 8'.

Ended sessions in Task Manager and I don't generally have a lot of tabs open.

Also, may not or maybe be relevant. AVG, the free version suggested that I might be at risk of tracking cookies, but no virus. I may be putting up a separate post about that too, asking the currently best version to by and upgrade AVG.

Sunsetting support for Windows 7 / 8/8.1 and Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 in 2023 - Chrome Enterprise & Education Community

Chrome running on Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 (OSes based on Windows 8/8.1) will also not be updated beyond Chrome 109. However, to ease customer transitions, Critical security fixes and fixes for bugs where Google is aware of exploits in the wild will be issued to Chrome 109 on these two OS versions until October 10, 2023.

Hardware Acceleration where would I find that please? my drivers under Device Management are up to date. Version of Chrome; Version 109.0.5414.149 (Official Build) (64-bit).

Ok, I was aware of the support ending - it comes up at on the Chrome banner. I was just wondering if there was a work around, like you say ended in January this year. Unfortunately, I've not had chance to upgrade to Windows 10 / 11. I'm sure there must be others out there in a similar situation, i.e. still running Win 8.1.

That's weird. Test with hw acc on/off
