weak usb performance

hi there,

perhaps someone could shed some light on this issue:

i/o performance when copying to an external usb3-disk was up to 120 MB/s under XP.
This is what I expected.

Since upgrading to WIN 8.1 i/o performance dropped down to a peak of 25 MB/s.

No Hardware change!
based on device manager no problems are reported, driver's up to date.
corresponding I/O port is recognized as USB-3 but performance is only about USB-2 .

anyone any idea to regain USB-3 performance?

You didn't make a hardware change, but you made a major software change - you went from XP to Windows 8.1.

Go to the website for your motherboard, select your OS (Windows 8.1 64-bit or 32-bit), and download and install the latest USB driver. See if that fixes the problem.

If that doesn't fix things, then consider purchasing and installing an internal USB3 card for your computer.

I've allready checked for new drivers and such at ASUS's server.
No success so far.

My question came up because of another reason:

I remember I've found in XP a config choice between reliable and hi-performance xfer
(or somehow similar terms) for USB(3) ports.
My guess is for reliable xfer they omitted a connection status check b4/after each
block transfer. But I can't find this choice any longer in 8.1.

Maybe this feature became some kind of a hidden feature?
If yes: where/how can I find it?
