Rearrange minimized windows of the same program in taskbar

OP here. I have been using the solution suggested by JamesWise above (the 7+ Taskbar Tweaker utility) for 2 years, and it works fine. It also works in Windows 10. It's maddening that you have a third party app for something so obvious, but it works pretty well.

Rearrange minimized windows of the same program in taskbar

Still looking for a solution to this, if anyone has found one. The problem also persists in Windows 10.

Rearrange minimized windows of the same program in taskbar

I'm just pointing out that this problem is not as obvous as you're suggesting and that you are dealing with an advanced Windows user who wouldn't go through the trouble of starting a forum thread if this was as easy as dragging something left and right.

Rearrange minimized windows of the same program in taskbar

I'm super happy that you've been able to do it since Windows 7. I had been able to do it since Windows XP or whenever M$ implemented taskbar window dragging. But I am not able to do it in the current Windows installation, which is the whole reason I started this thread.

Rearrange minimized windows of the same program in taskbar

Unchecking the lock option did not do anything.

Rearrange minimized windows of the same program in taskbar

Who said anything about "always combine?" They're set to "never combine" on my PC, and no, dragging doesn't help rearrange them.

Rearrange minimized windows of the same program in taskbar

Which means you're probably not understanding the question.

Rearrange minimized windows of the same program in taskbar

That sounds like the obvious answer, but it's not a correct one. You can drag different programs left or right, but not multiple instances of the same program.

Rearrange minimized windows of the same program in taskbar

Is this possible? I have 3 open Chrome windows that are minimized in the taskbar. I would like them to remain in the order that I originally opened them, but sometimes Windows 8 decides to switch their order. It's extremely frustrating and totally breaks up the flow of my work. Can I...

Can't edit hosts file due to administrator rights

You're right, I have no idea, because it was a long time ago. I replaced the hosts file on my new computer with a newly created duplicate and now have full permissions to it. Thanks for the help. :) A related question. I have a banking app with a shortcut on the desktop. The shortcut...

Can't edit hosts file due to administrator rights

Hi. I checked the settings, and the owner of that file is my administrator account, as opposed to SYSTEM. But I don't think I had ever set the ownership for that file.

Can't edit hosts file due to administrator rights

I still have my old computer. Can you help me check the settings on it and replicate them?

Can't edit hosts file due to administrator rights

Again, I did not do any of this on my old computer. I disabled UAC, and that was the end of the prompts and the errors. And generally, if you are already running the entire OS as an administrator, is it not redundant to take ownership of individual files or folders? Is this not the equivalent...

Can't edit hosts file due to administrator rights

I am getting error "Save failed - Please check if this file is opened in another program" when trying to edit the hosts file in Notepad++. This has only started happening after a fresh installation of Windows 8 on a new computer. My previous computer with Windows 8.1 was able to do it...

Solved [Help] Blue and yellow shield

I am so frustrated that Microsoft is making our lives difficult by putting idiotic prompts in the OS every time we try to do something as simple as renaming an icon. Why is this shield there on programs that come from legitimate institutions like banks? And why do the prompts keep appearing...
