It's my understanding/belief you can install 8.1 and use a 8 product key to activate it. I think you would need to use a generic key when installing 8.1, and then change the product key after the install. What is GPF formatting, i haven't heard of that before ? I have a Legacy BIOS PC (no UEFI) and a 3TB backup HD. I initialized it as GPT and formatted it as NTFS. I use the HD as a single partition.

In addition to what Brink suggests. I've see where it displays requests, but the requestsoverride still work. Temporarily set it to sleep after 1 minute, and see if does go to sleep.
